Movements Promoting Uniformity, such as Zionism, have Threatened the Crucial Diversity Found in the World Landscape

Palestinian women inside Qalandia Israeli checkpoint, separating Jerusalem from the West Bank, January 2017

In this message video of one of my talks on nature, one of my talks more political, an article on nature and resistance, a video on checkpoints, and action items to support Palestine]
I am now back in Palestine. It is very hot and we had power outages (caused death of many of our fish in the aquaponic systems). My tour in the US was very successful though tiring. I spoke in 7 cities in six states in 15 days. I spent much time at airports (with extra scrutiny) and gave over 25 talks and held over 30 other meetings. I met many wonderful people and visited related natural history museums and academics in Denver, Albuquerque, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Raleigh, and Washington DC. I and the small museum team of staff and volunteers are really thankful to all who helped and who met with me and all who attended talks and/or donated.  We also raised about $20,000 for the museum and institute of biodiversity and sustainability. If you have not donated, we could use your support (go to ).

For those who missed attending my talks and would like to see an example talk, please go to:

My 20 minute presentation and the really good Q&A at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. “Palestine has a rich natural history that is often overshadowed (and threatened by) the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. In the midst of this challenging environment a team of mostly volunteers has made major progress in documenting the biodiversity and conservation status of Palestine’s flora and fauna and sharing that natural heritage with students, local citizens and the international community. Come hear the story of how the Palestine Museum of Natural History is studying biodiversity and promoting environmental conservation and sustainability.”

And for a somewhat different talk I gave focusing on political challenges given at the Jerusalem Fund in Washington DC, please see

“Dr. Qumsiyeh argues that movements towards uniformity such as Zionism have threatened the crucial diversity found in the landscape. This applies both to social diversity and also to biodiversity. Restoring our social and natural ecosystems to balance requires challenging ideas of dominance and hegemony, which Dr. Qumsiyeh is uniquely positioned to illuminate as a Palestinian Christian, a biologist, and a human rights activist. His talk is framed by three points of focus: the plants and animals of the Holy Land and the status of nature conservation there; the role fulfilled by establishing museums and botanical gardens in third-world areas, and the perspective of a Palestinian Christian on Islam, peace studies, and conflict resolution.”

Checkpoint 300: Thousands of Palestinian workers queue at this Israeli military checkpoint before dawn each day.

Call to global boycott of Air Canada for complicity in Israeli war crimes:

Again thanks to all who supported us and we welcome further support to serve Palestine, humanity and nature.
