Palestinians in Iraq Still Target of Killing, Displacement, and Systematic Detention

Thabet: Stop oppressing Palestinians in Iraq

[ 24/03/2012 - 08:38 AM ]

BEIRUT, (PIC)--

Thabet organization for Palestinian refugees right of return has called for ending the oppression befalling Palestinian refugees in Iraq.

It said in a press release on Friday that the Palestinians in Iraq are the target of killing, displacement, and systematic detention.

Thabet said that the storming operations of Baladiyat complex, which houses the bulk of Palestinian refugees in Baghdad, did not stop. It said that three Palestinians were arrested by interior ministry commandos on Saturday 17/3/2012 without any reasons given.

The Beirut-based organization condemned the oppressive measures against the Palestinian refugees in Iraq, and called on the Arab summit, scheduled to open in Baghdad next Thursday, to urgently intervene to protect the Palestinians in Iraq.

It also asked the UNHCR to intervene, and advised the Palestinian Authority to coordinate with the Iraqi authorities on means of protecting the remaining Palestinian refugees in Iraq who now number 7000 out of the original 38000, most of whom fled out of the country over the past few years fearing for their lives.
