Palestinian reported injured after Gaza airstrike

Published yesterday (updated) 06/07/2011 17:54 GAZA CITY (Ma’an) --

Israeli occupation forces aircraft opened fire on the central Gaza Strip early Wednesday, injuring a Palestinian man and causing damage to property, medical officials said.

Medics transferred the unidentified Palestinian to the Shifa Hospital west of Gaza City.

Onlookers said aircraft fired two missiles toward structures near the Al-Shuja'iya area of Gaza City. One of the missiles landed without exploding.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said forces targeted a tunnel in northern Gaza, claiming that the attack was a response to the firing of projectiles toward Israel, she said.

Wednesday's attack came hours after two Palestinians were killed and a third was injured as Israeli occupation forces aircraft fired on central Gaza in an act of aggression against the besieged Palestinian territory.

Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported on Tuesday evening that two residents were killed, and one was injured, after the Israeli occupation forces bombarded Al-Musaddar village, in the central Gaza Strip.

The two slain residents were identified as Mohammad Sa’id Abu Jazar, and Kamal Hamdan Abu Mu'ammar.

Adham Abu Salmiyya, spokesperson of the higher committee of medical and emergency services in Gaza, reported that medics transferred the bodies of the two slain residents, and the wounded resident, to a Al-Aqsa Hospital in Dair Al-Balah.

An Israeli military spokesperson claimed that the Israeli act of aggression took because a group of Palestinian fighters were suspected of preparing to fire shells into adjacent Israeli areas.
