9 Iraqis Killed, Scores Injured in Attacks

- A roadside bomb exploded targeting a US forces convoy, south of Baghdad today at dawn.

- A
senior official in the Ministry of Agriculture was killed in a roadside bomb, in Al-Sha'ab area, in Baghdad.

- A group of gunmen blew up a house in Khan Dhari, west of Baghdad.

-
Two Iraqi policemen were killed, 25 were injured in a suicide car bomb explosion in Nabi Younus, in Mosul.

-
Two Iraqi soldiers were killed, 6 were injured in two Mosul explosions.

-
Two people were killed by gunmen in Al-Rasheed area, south of Baghdad.

- A
worker of an election campaign was assassinated by unknown gunmen. He belonged to the Maliki coalition.

- 5 US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed or injured in an attack on their checkpoint, south of Baghdad.

- An attack on two Christian Iraqi
students resulted in killing one of them and injuring the other in Mosul.

Child wounded by bomb blast in western Mosul

A child was wounded on Tuesday in a bomb explosion that targeted a police vehicle patrol in western Mosul, a police source said.

“A hand grenade went off on Tuesday evening (Feb. 16) targeting a police vehicle patrol in Mosul al-Jadieda region in western Mosul, injuring a passing 9-year-old child,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast did not harm any policemen,” he added.Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Officer wounded by gunmen in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

An officer of the Kirkuk emergency department was wounded on Tuesday by gunmen in central Kirkuk, according to a senior police officer.

“Major Senan Najat Mohammad was seriously wounded on Tuesday evening (Feb. 16) when unknown gunmen tried to kill him,” Colonel Ghazi Ali told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen shot the officer using a gun with silencer in Turuq Baghdad region in central Kirkuk,” he added.

“The wounded officer was carried to the Kirkuk public hospital,” he also said.

Kirkuk is located 250 km north of Baghdad.

3 wounded in house blast near Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three civilians have been injured in a house blast near the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a police source said on Tuesday.

“Unknown gunmen blew up a house in Khan Dari area, west of Baghdad, destroying large parts of the house and wounding three civilians who were close by at the time of the bombing,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Neighboring houses were also severely damaged as a result of the blast, the source noted.

Blast wounds 2 army officers in Mosul

Two Iraqi army officers and one civilian were wounded when a roadside bomb hit on Tuesday an army patrol in eastern Mosul city.

“All the injuries were admitted to hospital,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Mosul blast leaves 4 killed, wounded

Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and two civilians were injured in an explosive charge blast in Mosul City, a security source said on Tuesday.

“This morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) hit an Iraqi army patrol vehicle at al-Muthanna intersection, eastern Mosul, killing two patrolmen and injuring two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The wounded have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the source added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Christian gunned down in Mosul shooting

A Christian man was killed by gunmen in Ninewa’s Mosul City, a local security source said on Tuesday.

“This morning, gunmen opened fire on two Christian students who were on their way to university in al-Arabi neighborhood, northern Mosul, killing one of them and seriously wounding the other,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The victim was a student in the Faculty of Pharmacy, while the wounded, who is currently in the intensive care unit, was studying engineering,” the source pointed out.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

2 civilians wounded by sticky bomb in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians were wounded on Monday evening in a sticky bomb blast in western Baghdad, a police source said.

“A bomb, stuck by unknown gunmen to a civilian vehicle, went off near Sahet al-Aordon in western Baghdad, wounding two civilians and injuring the vehicle,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security forces sealed off the whole region and carried the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said.

Iraqi soldier killed in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi army soldier was killed on Monday in an armed attack on an army checkpoint in western Mosul, a police source said.

“Unknown gunmen attacked an army checkpoint in 17 Tamouz neighborhood in western Mosul, killing a solider,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He gave no more details.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, is 405 km north of Baghdad.
