All we are saying is give peace a chance By Carlos Zavala March 2, 2004
All we are saying is give peace a chance. All we are saying is let live advance, Past all this killing our taxes pay for. We don’t want more blood on our hands over war. This terror pushes us to bankruptcy, While some wealthy rulers rob our prosperity. A war to justify them listening to you, Hoping you spend all your money where they want you to. A war to distract us from the problems we share, We are just hoping our nations will care. Just remember that freedom’s not free, We must secure happiness and liberty. Instead we occupy with reasons too small, making some much more wealthy while so many crawl. So distracted with diversions so far away, We’re ignoring the solutions we have here today. We could use our missiles to explore deep into space, Instead of destroying the whole human race. Buying weapons of war we think that we need Won’t set a course to let life succeed. All the suffering makes God feel like hell, Omnipresent, a part of all living things living well. If we all are connected, if there is a God, Its love and it’s peace that She would applaud. What if a piece of Her is inside of us all? Would She bless the big to make the little man fall? What kind of a Christian lets these things be? “What you’ve done unto others you’ve done unto me!” Make human achievement a thing that will last. Lets stop this killing and lets start doing it fast! Lets move past this anger, this rage, and this fear, Understanding life is too precious, too short and too dear. All we are saying is give peace a chance. All we are hoping is that life will advance, past this blood-sport that some so employ to keep us away from feeling the joy, of living together in a place where all kinds, Loving everyone’s differences opens our minds. That’s the importance of diversity, Freedom’s not freedom unless everyone’s free.
Note: I wrote this poem in September 2002 when realizing what Bush was up to. There are references to God as a woman. I don’t think God can be categorized as male or female, but just did it to highlight that good people shouldn’t let little things – like gender or race - get in the way of respect for everyone.
