Promoting Gilad's New Project: If Palestine Belongs to Jews, Then Jazz Also Belongs to Them

By Mary Rizzo

Al-Jazeerah, October 3, 2006

Hi everyone, I know most of us have been promoting in a big or small way Gilad Atzmon's new project, which is the Zionist alter-ego of Gilad, Artie Fishel. Artie's claim that Jazz belongs to Jews (Fighting Jazz Revisionism) brings out the absurd analogy of saying Palestine belongs to Jews and it is a new way to make people stop and reflect. On the other hand, it is terribly entertaining, communicates an important message without being "overtly political" and it is different from anything most of us have seen up to now. The project, which is based around a CD, a site, a tour, and perhaps some other "barrage" has been a long time in development, and the results, for anyone who has seen the concert or heard the disc are stunning, to say the least.

Many of us have been promoting the project for a while, with emails, posts and other things to our mailing lists and to those who read our sites. Since the project has officially been released this week, it would be nice to have it get a proper launch from those who have been supporting Gilad, his friends and his fans, even those who may not always see eye to eye with him, but appreciate the efforts he makes and enjoy the widening of discourse that often accompanies his work. Gilad and I were discussing perhaps creating a small banner icon to put on the sites, with a link to Artie's homepage, which has tour info and other material (including a videogame with the backdrop of bombed out Beirut accompanied by computerised HaTikvah). If we develop a banner, would anyone like to put it on their sites? (is there anyone who is good at creating a tiny banner? I'm not the one!) We were also thinking of having one day to send out the flier that is available (with tour dates) perhaps later in the week or early next week. If anyone would like to join in the promotion, either send a message to me or to Gilad. Those who want to sell the CD through their sites should talk to Gilad about it, because he mentioned doing something of the sort. I don't know the setup, but he would be able to tell the details.

There are very few truly political artistic projects around, and barely any that fearlessly fight the zionist brainwashing that we are subject to, so I think that efforts like this need the push they can get from those in activism, because the rest of the mass media does nothing whatsoever to point out the dissent that exists.

Waiting to hear from you, or if you prefer, (probably better), send your suggestions, adhesions, comments, queries to Gilad at gilad@gilad.co.uk and we can organise a unified launch.
