The Right Choice for the US was Democracy and Freedom in Palestine not War and Occupation in Iraq

By John Anast

Al-Jazeerah, May 4, 2004

The United States had before it, in 2003, an historic opportunity to bring change and modernization to the entire Middle East thereby ushering in a new era of education, jobs and housing for a young and growing Arab population. Certainly considering the demographics and relative young age of a new generation in the Arab world, the goals of freedom and democracy would seem essential to ensuring a quality of life synonymous with the American dream. That said, I am sure that there are dreams just as sufficient and just as satisfying which Arabs in the Middle East hold dear.

The Bush Administration standing before the preverbal fork-in-the-road chose a path that now seems set to affect a strategic shift of enormous proportion the ramifications of which will be felt by the US for years. In a recent article published in the Wall Street Journal, retired General Odem correctly set forth the failure of the Iraq expedition and American leadership. It is likely one of the only instances where General Odem inadvertently agreed with General Giap - the former military leader of North Viet Nam -- and his recent assessment of the Iraq debacle.

The enormity of the choice made by the Bush Administration and its ramifications in terms of human life in Palestine and Iraq cannot be understated. Remembering that Americans are dying in Iraq as well as Iraqis. There is a more ominous number, however, the closely guarded casualty figures for wounded US combatants and support personnel that are estimated to be in excess of 20,000. Perhaps that number may explain the rational for the Department of Defense suggestion that the troop line is getting thin.

Equal only to the enormity of the Bush decision was the enormity of his mistake, fostered by the Zionist enterprise, to forsake Palestine and condemn its people to genocide sponsored by Israel. Perhaps if Bush had better advisors, or a few Palestinians in his cabinet, or if he would have engaged President Arafat and invited him to the White House over Israeli objections, the outcome in Iraq might have been avoided and better choices for peace made.

The obvious choice known to almost every leader in the Arab remains clear. The way to accommodate change in the Arab world is through Palestine, where there is ample history and a basis for democracy in that region. If the Bush Administration was seeking to create a shining example of a democratic center in the Arab world Palestine is certainly it. Relatively unknown to many Americans is the fact that historic Palestine was a paradise that enjoyed a full-fledged democracy with many democratic institutions and a participatory electorate well beyond the current level of American electoral participation. It would have been easy in that sense to reconstitute a democracy in Palestine, which was the system of government of that State prior to the invasion of foreign peoples claiming some inane right over the land where Christ walked some 2,000 years ago. It could have been the choice, which would have secured a place of honor for America in the entire Arab world and where truly American soldiers would have been welcomed and greeted with cheers and flowers as liberators. Instead the United States chose to invade and occupy Iraq, which was perceived as a threat to Israeli expansion - an Arab country nonetheless with a history not conducive to democracy or occupation. From Lebanon to Iraq to Palestine, the region is in a constant state of decay and war because of Israel and the Zionist enterprise.

Hiding in the shadows behind bad decisions within the Bush Administration are many dark faces of the failure of Zionism. The notion of a greater Israel propelled America into an ill-fated venture the cost of which in human and monetary terms seemed secondary to expanding an Israeli empire in the Zionist scheme. At the center of this colossal mistake are people who entered the Pentagon and White House with preconceived notions and plans relative to securing hegemony for Israel over Arab lands as their “final solution” - in response to the utter failure of the Israel experiment. In fact many of these same individuals have in the past worked directly for the Israeli Likud party in drafting plans for “securing the realm of Israel.” Given the opportunity and weight of the Vice President’s office Zionists embroidered those same alien plans into the fabric of American foreign policy as an unsuspecting public and neophyte president looked on unaware. These are not the actions of patriotic Americans securing our Nation and its borders, but the treachery of Israeli spies working on behalf of a foreign country to meet its perceived needs of expanding its borders.

Likewise disclosing the name of an American covert agent to the press was not an act of patriotic Americans, but one of treachery spawned by fanatical Zionist fervor on behalf of Israel. In addition these same traitors in the face of the weight of evidence against the false Niger uranium intelligence leak, incredulously continued to insist that Iraq sought weapons grade uranium from Niger when they obviously knew the story was without merit because they themselves created it as part of the Zionist enterprise in support of the Israeli regime. Zionists created and disseminated other false information including an alleged Al Qaeda / Iraq connection. To this very day Zionists continue to refer to Iraq as a war on "terrorism" when nothing could be further from the truth. Where have American interests been served by these acts of treachery? Zionism is a cancer on America, an alien ideology promulgating a war of civilizations and cultures as a foundation for the Zionist empire at the expense of our Nation, its people and its resources.

The single issue, which the Zionist enterprise sought to defeat, was not Iraq per say but peace itself. Peace in Palestine means recognized borders, it means truth, it means a Palestinian State, it means the end of apartheid, and it mean the end of the Zionist empire. Another fact most Americans are oblivious to is that in apartheid Palestine, racial discrimination extends not only to places of business and worship, but also to roads, land, entire towns, food, water, crops, shelter, et cetera. People of color in apartheid Palestine are without rights or human dignity. It is a deliberate campaign to push the Palestinian people from their own land to expand the Zionist enterprise. Those who refuse to be driven out are systematically murdered by Israel in an elaborate ethnic cleansing scheme supported by the Bush Administration.

Bush had an opportunity to secure a lasting peace for a generation in the Middle East, but instead chose a different path, an unjust war with incalculable ramifications for our Nation. It would have been much easier to force peace on Israel - which is abhors, then to condemn Americans, Iraqis and Palestinians to a death struggle for the sake of Zionism. Zionism now threatens Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. It would have been much better for the US to work with these countries as allies in creating democracy in Palestine and to make changes for a lasting peace rather than to threaten them with war, as Zionism demands. Recently US military commanders in Iraq expressed concern that local news coverage in Doha was interfering with the level of cooperation between US personnel and the members of Qatar’s government. I suggest to those same commanders that it is US actions which interfere with relations between the US and regional governments, not the coverage of it.

There is no better example than the recent deplorable pictures of Iraqi prisoners being tortured and mistreated. Everyone from military commanders to President Bush have expressed their shock and revulsion that a few bad apples have tarnished the entire military in a supposed isolated case. What they failed to advise was that these actions were known to the military for months and kept hidden from view until a journalist took the initiative to expose them. It is also interesting to note that the defense of the personnel involved in these deplorable acts, was to suggest that they had no written instructions on how to treat other human beings. While the shock and awe of US politicians in an election year makes news, Palestinians suffer the same fate and worse in the gulags of Israeli oppression, financed and supported by the United States. So the US opposes torture when caught but provides the money and opportunity, without objection, for Israel to torture Palestinians.

While certainly not in America’s interest, Zionists continue to manipulate American foreign policy for the sole benefit of Israel and the Zionist empire. Zionism threatens America too, which threat cannot and must not be underestimated. Currently there is any number of Zionist organizations operating in America, which should be on the counter-intelligence short list. Some of those organizations maintain active and retired US military and intelligence personnel with security clearances in their ranks. It should be obvious that these are Israeli front organizations seeking to conduct espionage activities on American soil.

Not one American had to die in Iraq. Not one American had to come home maimed. Not one shot needed to be heard. Eventually an American administration will realize that the “poison” in the Middle East is Israel and that all financial and military aid to Israel must be stopped. Israel must be disarmed completely if there is to be a lasting peace in accordance with 1948 borders - granting 45% of historic Palestine as a national state with all the rights of any other country including air and sea rights. The current failed Israeli plan endorsed by Bush and defeated by Sharon’s own party, called for 4% of the land to be set aside for a Palestinian State with no rights and with the population huddled in separate noncontiguous Bantustans surrounded by Israeli military. Perhaps Mr. Bush should find a few new advisors who support American interests and not those of the Zionist enterprise and acknowledge the “reality” that Palestine belongs to its indigenous people the Palestinians.

As for Mr. Kerry, he has not figured out yet that his decline in the polls began just after he publicly stated support for Sharon and his policies. It is the same phenomenon that doomed the Dean campaign. As politically astute as these men are they cannot seem to get beyond Zionist propaganda and address the fact that there is a huge ground swell of public opposition in America to the policies of Israel and its Zionist agents operating in the United States. The notion of a “Jewish vote” of any import is a myth and a code for money and favorable media coverage. There are only about 5 million Jews living in America out of a population of about 280 million, of whom many are not registered to or simply do not vote.

Campaigning on a platform of Bush-light and concentrating on a “character” issue will not get him elected, but merely marginalize him in the view of the voting public. Mr. Kerry needs a plan to withdraw US troops from Iraq, and support an equitable peace in Palestine. Who would have thunk it? With the American economy in sad shape, interest rates rising, the war in Iraq lost, and local tax rates and healthcare costs increasing, Kerry is actually behind in the polls. His enthusiastic support for Israel, which enshrined him in the Senate for years, now has become an albatross around his neck. Maybe Mr. Kerry could use a few new advisors too instead of the current crop vying to become the next Zionist liaison to Israel.
