USA and Iraq

Mike Durocher

8/29/03

My American neighbours to the south are the biggest whiners and the poorest of sports when it comes to bias for their American homeland. Canada has been struggling to survive economically because of American interventionist policies. Americans blame Canada for over-subsidizing the forest industry and the US began charging 27% import fees when we all know that the USA could not survive without our softwood lumber. This is especially true, when 500 US homes get blown away by mother nature's tornadoes and hurricanes annually. God does have a way of helping oppressed nations get even. Then the Mad Cow disease outbreak comes along and we Canadians find out that there is a good chance that cow came from the USA. But the Americans say it is a cow in Canada; we get blamed again.

The USA also claims that it was Canada's fault that 9/11 came to be. The terrorists came in from Canada they claim. It was American taught pilots, who used paper cutters purchased in America with American dollars that caused all the harm on the 11th of September in New York.the same day as my twins' birthday. Can you imagine how I felt when my daughter said, "Dad, 9/11 is the same day as our birthday, how can I have a good time on my birthday?"

I was against a war against Iraq because I do not believe in American style violence especially after 9/11.They left Aphganistan in a tatter and now we have Canadians in there risking their lives for a US bungled invasion. I do not believe that one can fight terrorism with terrorism. Besides, Saddam and Iraq did not have any ties to terrorists such as Al Qaida. The only terror in Iraq was of the peoples' fright of Saddam himself. But, was he a threat to the security of Americans in their homeland? Not even! After five months there is still no evidence of WMD.if there ever is, it will have been planted by the Americans.they have no choice but keep deceiving the people.they have no guts to admit they screwed up.

The ultimate goal of the Bush, Rumsfeld, Condi Rice war machine is to secure their paws on Iraqi oil. They don't care how the Iraqis suffer, as the security of oil pipelines is their priority. Another hidden agenda is to secure the Middle East and to protect Israel interests. Israel gets the communications-telephone rebuilding contracts, now they can eavesdrop on anybody, anytime. Hanging signs in Arabic on their vehicles stating that in exchange for the security of the American the Iraqis will get water and power. What a trade-off.

Hunting Saddam like a dog is a sick excuse for a self-described liberating force. Killing his sons and his grandson was a crime and should be pursued through international legal channels. The Saddam regime is over and there is no reason to have to kill Saddam's family. Why are the other countries not requesting that the Americans stop their mad hunt and work towards rebuilding or get out.

The best thing the Americans can do now, is put their tails between their legs and go home lock-stock- and-barrel. Let the UN and Arab nations get a coalition together to help the Iraqi people rebuild their country and then send the bill to the American government. Allowing the US to dictate the rebuilding of Iraq is like allowing the fox to take care of your chicken coop.
