2 civilians killed, wounded by U.S. fire in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian on Wednesday was killed and another was wounded by U.S. fire in Mosul city, according to a local security source.

“The incident occurred in al-Mosul al-Jadida area, western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, providing no further details. No comment was immediately available from the U.S. forces.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

IED wounds 3 Sahwa fighters in Anbar

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three Sahwa council fighters on Wednesday were wounded in an explosive charge blast the occurred in Anbar province, according to a local police chief.

“The roadside device, which went off in Halibaja village (3 km east of al-Karma district), wounded a Sahwa leader in Falluja, Naeem Saleh Abullah, who was on his way back home, as well as two of his guards,” Lt. Col. Hatif Mohammed told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The Sahwa councils are anti-Qaeda fighters working in coordination with the Multi-National Force (MNF) and the Iraqi government. Headed by local chieftains, the councils have been credited with helping reduce violence in many Iraqi provinces, like Anbar, Diala, Ninewa, and Salah al-Din.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital city of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Woman, daughter kidnapped in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A woman and her daughter were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Diala province, a security source said on Wednesday.

“The mother and daughter were kidnapped today from Rabia village (3 km northeast of al-Saadiya district) and were taken to an unknown destination,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “An investigation is currently underway,” the source added, providing no further details.

Al-Saadiya district lies 155 km northeast of Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, which lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Sticky IED kills civilian in Mosul

One civilian on Wednesday was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) that targeted his vehicle in Mosul city, according to a security source.

“The civilian died when the explosive charge detonated inside his vehicle in al-Quds neighborhood, eastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The body was taken to the morgue,” the source noted, providing no further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Explosion targets army patrol, no casualties

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: An improvised explosive device (IED) on Wednesday targeted an army patrol in Mosul city, causing no casualties, according to a local police source.

“The explosion occurred in al-Hadbaa neighborhood,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding that no casualties were reported.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Civilian gunned down near Arbil market

One civilian on Wednesday was shot down by unknown gunmen near a popular market in downtown Arbil city, according to a local police source.

“On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen killed a civilian near a used clothes market in central Arbil,” Brig. Abdulkhaliq Talaat told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The man was instantly killed,” the official noted, adding the gunmen have fled to an unknown destination.

Arbil, the capital city of Arbil province, lies 349 km northeast of Baghdad.

Al-Kadhimiya explosion toll up to 30

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Casualties from the bomb blast that ripped though Baghdad’s al-Kadhimiya region earlier today have risen to seven dead and 23 wounded, a police source said on Wednesday.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Wednesday (April 8) near Imam al-Kadhim shrine in al-Kadhimiya city in northern Baghdad, killing seven and injuring 23, including women and children,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A police source had said earlier that an explosive charge went off on Wednesday (April 8) near Imam al-Kadhim shrine in al-Kadhimiya region in northern Baghdad, killing three and injuring 12, including women and children.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: At least three people were killed and 12 others were wounded on Wednesday in an improvised explosive device explosion in northern Baghdad, a police source said.

“An explosive charge went off on Wednesday (April 8) near Imam al-Kadhem shrine in al-Kadhimiya region in northern Baghdad, killing three and injuring 12, including women and children,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Hostage freed, kidnapers arrested in Missan

 Iraqi army personnel on Wednesday released a hostage and captured three of his kidnapers in Amara city, according to a military source.

“On Wednesday, a force from the 38 th Brigade, 10 th Division, freed a hostage in downtown Amara city and nabbed three of his kidnapers in downtown Amara city,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The operation was carried out in light of intelligence tips,” the source indicated. Amara, the capital city of Missan province, lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

5 suspects arrested in Kut

WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Five suspects on Wednesday were arrested during a search raid in Wassit province for their suspected involvement in rocket attacks on the military Delta base.

“On Wednesday evening, forces from the Criminal Investigations Department arrested five suspects during a raid in Anwar al-Sadr neighborhood, eastern Kut,” a security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. During a late hour on Tuesday (April 7) evening, two Katyusha rockets were fired at the Multi-National Force Delta base, but no casualties were reported.

Kut, the capital city of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.

Naqshabandiya member captured in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

A joint force on Wednesday arrested a member of the Naqshabandiya group in southern Kirkuk city, according to a local police source.

“A joint force from the Criminal Investigations Department and al-Urouba Police arrested an al-Naqshabandiya group member in al-Mamdouda neighborhood, southern Kirkuk,” Col. Shirzad Mofri told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The man is wanted by the security apparatus in accordance with Article IV of the Terrorism Law,” Mofri added. Al-Naqshabandiya is a group that introduces itself as an Islamic spiritual dogmatic organization, but its ideologies changed into ones of armed struggle against the occupation forces. Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Arabs, Kurds, Turkmen and Christians, lies 250 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
