Palestinian President Abbas receives financial support from Arab states

(Gaza City) Palestine News Network Thursday, 20 July 2006

A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced Thursday that executive branch has received considerable donations from its Arab neighbors in the wake of increasingly economic hardship in the West Bank and Gaza.

He noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait each transferred $46 million, and that Qatar, Libya, Oman, and Yemen together were responsible for the transfer of $111 million. He pointed out that the League of Arab States donated an additional $50 million.

The spokesman told PNN that President Abbas has formed a committee to oversee the allocation of the money. On behalf of the Presidency, he expressed his gratitude and appreciation of this support to the Palestinian people in such difficult times.

Al-Jazeerah comment on the news:

This news gives evidence to how much insane and childish the Zionist leadership of the Empire has become in its behavior. The Israel-US-EU alliance has imposed a financial embargo on the Palestinian people as a collective punishment for electing Hamas to lead their government.

Now, after seven months of the financial embargo, the Palestinian people have been punished so severely that a disaster is looming if the embargo doesn't stop.

It seems finally that the embargo has been eased a little bit to allow some Arab assistance to reach the Palestinian people but through President Abbas, not through the elected government, which doesn't exist any way as a result of the Israeli assault in Gaza and the arrest of cabinet members and legislators.

This is a behavior that led to the suffering of millions of Palestinians and drowning the entire region in suffering and pain. It is a childish behavior that has already backlashed in death and destruction in Palestine and Lebanon. Any sane people out there?
