Palestinian member of Israeli Parliament, Muhammed Barakeh, fighting policy of no Christmas trees allowed PNN, (Nablus) Amin Abu Wardeh Thursday, 28 December 2006 Palestinian member of Israeli Parliament (Knesset) Muhammed Barakeh is intervening on the behalf of Christians inside Israeli boundaries. They are not the native Palestinian Christians, but rather people who have moved to Israel and are not Jewish. A housing company has been insisting that they remove all Christmas trees as they “negatively impact the feelings of Jews.” Barakeh sent an urgent letter to the Israeli Minister of Housing requesting that he intervene. There has been talk in the Israeli media about immigrants who are not Jews, but rather Christians, who have installed Christmas trees in their homes. The company that runs the housing is asking that these people immediately remove the trees. Barakeh's point in his letter to the Israeli Minister is that “this strange and dangerous racial discrimination and prejudice, particularly with regard to freedom of religion and belief, must be rejected.” The Palestinian asked what the Israeli reaction would be if a country disallowed symbols of Judaism in the homes of Jews. Barakeh is asking that the Israeli Minister of Housing deal with the situation immediately.
