Dear Readers,
Opinions
expressed in various sections are the sole responsibility of their authors
and they may not represent Al-Jazeerah's. In particular, Al-Jazeerah may
not agree, approve, condone, or acquiesce any of the published photos, cartoons,
news articles, and opinion articles.
These materials represent reactions
of authors to American foreign policy in the Middle East, Israeli
occupation policies and practices in occupied Palestine, or policies and
practices of Arab governments and Arab rulers.
The main objective is to enable
English readers all over the world, particularly in the US and Israel, to
know about the impact of the policies of these governments on Arabs and
Muslims.
When people are more aware of the
consequences of policies of their governments, cross-cultural
understanding increases, which leads to a more just and peaceful world ...
That is the essence of the Al-Jazeerah.info Mission.

| A
column of smoke rises into the air after a car bomb
attack on an Iraqi army convoy wounded five soldiers
and three civilians in Baghdad July 15, 2005. Ten
suicide car bombers exploded in a series of
apparently coordinated attacks across the Iraqi
capital on Friday, killing at least 25 people and
wounding more than 100, police sources said. All
appeared to target U.S. or Iraqi security forces,
police said. (Reuters,
7/15/05). |

wearing an explosives vest blew himself up next to a fuel
truck on Saturday night, when many people were crowding the
streets. Above: A view of the place on July 17, 2005. (Photo

| A
new Arab hero: Yemeni President
Ali Abdullah Saleh. In a serious speech, Saleh
announced that he is not going to run for elections in
September. He also called Yemenis to elect new young
leaders. Thus, Saleh became the third Arab President ever to
leave power willingly before being overthrown or dead. The
first was Syrian President, Shukri Al-Quwatli, who gave in
for Nasser in 1958 in order to unite Syria and Egypt. The
second was Sewar Al-Dhahab, stepped out as the President of
Sudan to allow democratically-elected government to replace
him in the 1960s. The real test for Saleh is preventing his
son, Ahmed, from running for president (Alquds Alarabi,
7/18/05). |

| Iraqi
prisoners abused by British soldiers. A
new book banned from publication by the Blair government
uncovers the corruption and the illegality of the Blair
government in its involvement in the invasion and
occupation of Iraq. The book was written by
Jeremy Greenstock, who was the UK ambassador to
the UN before the invasion, and the Bremer deputy ruler of
Iraq after that. The Blair government wants Greenstock to
remove the quotations of talks between him and each of Blair
and Straw, which implicate both of them in the illegality
and politics of the invasion and the occupation of Iraq.
Greenstock also scolded Bremer and Condi Rice for their way
of handling Iraqi affairs. The book was supposed to be
published by Random House. Now, it'll be published by a
British newspaper. (Alquds Alarabi, 7/18/05). |
