Beating Bush Just how difficult is it to beat Bush? Or rather why does it seem beyond the wit of Democrats to beat him? Surely the man has condemned himself time and again from his own mouth! Just put on the relevant video clips and end with the words "Wrong" or similar. Externally Bush said Iraq was a clear and present danger to the US. Bush said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. Bush said Iraqis would welcome US forces. Bush said combat operations were over. In fact, he either 'miscalculated' and/or lied. His aggressive, illegal and immoral war has cost almost a thousand American lives and the lives of some 20,000 Iraqis or more. He has made the world less safe (Strategic Institute) and led the US to an all-time moral low (Guantanemo, Abu Ghraib, Afghanistan etc). He has destroyed US standing in the Muslim world for decades to come and alienated 80-90% of Europeans. His policies are unwise and represent the very antithesis of peacemaking and understanding. Internally He fails on the budget deficit, health care (a real American 'sick' joke) and environmental protection. He acts - as he correctly claims - for 'the haves and have-mores'. He is the neo-con Robbing Hood - he steals from the poor and gives to the rich. Why do I have to write this? Where are the Democrats? Phil Hong
US presidential elections I saw an article today re: American Muslim leaders in Rosemont, Illinois, and the three leading candidates vying for their support. Bush, Kerry and the Lebanese-American Nader, this list is incomplete and the above noted will not change policy vis a vis Muslims. The system has to be jolted into Reality, and votes and endorsements for the Libertarian Badnarik would do so. The Libertarians are against foreign aid, foreign intervention, and only for wars of Self-defense. Please circulate this piece online, that the two parts of the Business party is not the only show in the US. UMAR A. RAHIM
CLOSURE OF TV STATION: al-Jazeera Banned and Raids on Offices The American appointed Ayad Allawi is nothing more than a second hand version of Bush: He is typical of the unoriginal dim bulb piracy that is necessary in the kinds of leaders we appoint: for The Bush Doctrine to work in Iraq or anywhere else: May his tenure as whatever-the-hell-he-is-supposed to be in Iraq end quickly and in the ugliest possible way. If it does not then there is NO TRUTH to anything that we've claimed for Iraq or the people we've attacked in any country - "Freedom of the press" in Iraq, is as absurd as freedom of the press in the USA. There is freedom but only to print what matters to the US junta and the Pentagon - and to what is being called American Policy but is in reality designed in Tel Aviv, and paid for by US taxpayers, in both blood and dollars. This action by Allawi will again intensify and further inflame the conflict, without adding anything to calm the waters in the region, which is supposed to have been the point. The bad-movie that Iraq has become will soon spread, with "leaders" like Bush and Allawi to look to, as long as a gullible and pacific public continues to give these "leaders" free reign to crush and maim the rights of others at will. Plea to mankind I am a 41 year old Australian man who wishes to express my sadness about the treatment of Palestinians under Israeli occupation. From what I can gather the Palestinians thus tortured and abused are showing great strength and courage, indeed monstrous suffering does seem to bring out the best in our race. Sadly the goodness born of suffering seldom seems to last much longer than the torment endures. Witness the Israelis who as mainly Jews suffered massively at the hands of their fellow men under Hitler's attempted genocide and the horrific means employed towards that end. Not long after, the same people have become chief among monsters on this planet with their beastly treatment of Palestinians. I sincerely hope that the Palestinians can learn to extend their love and understanding to all people and understand that it is hate which makes monsters, not different beliefs. I am not religious but am instead a Gnostic so I tend to believe all our struggles are wasted. For all the ugliness and contrasting beauty they are still only sideshows and the fate of mankind is probably already sealed. Gnostics have probably been persecuted longer than anybody on this planet, yet we still strive to love all our fellow humans. Hatred for the tormentor is understandable, but if you hate in return then the persecutor has won, by converting you to his way, no matter what other beliefs you think you have. Again it is not Christians, but those who allow themselves to be used in the confusion of mankind and as many extreme actions around the world are proving at the moment many Muslims too are fighting on behalf of the ancient evil. What I am trying to say is that no matter what your belief system you are either standing for love or for hate. Christians, Jews or Muslims, if you hate each other you are all in fact on the same side. One day our race may collectively awaken from the hallucinations of religion and recognise the real enemy who has been among us for longer than all of these and is in fact their author. I pray that day will come soon. Your Sincerely Steve Pallister
