Uri Avnery's Two Alerts to the World

Uri Avnery, the founder of the Israeli Peace movement, is alerting the world of two shocking manifestos recently published in Israel. One states that dismantling the settlements in the Gaza Strip is a "crime against humanity". “It does not mention that they were set up on the land reserves of a million Palestinians crowded in the tiny strip, and rob them of their scarce water. Officers and soldiers are called upon not to take part in this ‘ethnic cleansing’”.

“The second manifesto declares that the Halakha (Jewish religious law) commands the killing of innocent Palestinian civilians if this helps to save Jews. It is signed by the heads of the ‘Arrangement Yeshivot’, the West Bank settlement rabbis and other religious leaders.” According to Avnery, “What unites them is a primitive, atavistic morality that says that ‘we’ are a superior race, God's chosen people, a master race etc., while ‘they’ are inferior races, untermenschen. We may do to them whatever we please, with a clear conscience; they are not allowed to do to us anything at all.”

Millions of Palestinians live in virtual concentration camps where they are indiscriminately shot at, bombed, and their farmland and homes bulldozed. Over 28,000 have been made homeless since 2000. And yes, Palestinian suicide bombers kill Israelis in protest. We Americans fund Israel’s ethnic cleansing by $14 billion per year. Israel is a theocracy, not a democracy. Based on values expressed in the American Constitution, we should not fund Israel except for humanitarian purposes.

Kashmir: The Paradise Lost

India and Pakistan fought three wars over a patch of land, that a Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan called, ‘Paradise on Earth’. That is the state of Kashmir.

However, as events may turn out, both of claimants may be forced to hand it their paradise over to a third claimant – the US protégé, Israelis, who are flocking in droves to ‘discover’ and excavate historical sites, known as the tombs of Moses and Jesus.

For good measure, Israeli experts are trying to declare the Kashmiris themselves, as one of the lost tribes of Israel.

The first step may be to manage 'independence' for the people of Kashmir as per their long struggle. On the side, both the US and Israel will move in as the ultimate guarantor of its independence and another friendly abode for Diaspora Jews to settle and secure the region for the US.

As it is, US/Israel have declared Pakistan a hotbed of terrorism and they would need another fully secured security outpost to protect their strategic interests in the very center of three nuclear-armed neighbours.

Indians should thank Vajpayee, Advani and Brajesh Mishra to pave the way to solve the intractable problem of Kashmir, to honour the best wishes of the Kashmiri Muslims, who may find their Paradise lost.

Historically, whenever people of Indian subcontinent fought among themselves, a third force always came in and took over. This time around, the third force will arrive not through land routes like in the past, but will descend from heavens on the wings of friendly fleets of commercial airplanes to the ultimate despair of Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
