Foreign readership's interest in US elections Dear Al-jazeerah Editor, In your editor letters, I note your foreign readership's interest in our elections here in the U.S. That they most certainly should be as the U.S. elections impact the entire world. Angela Badelt from Germany in her letter published October 16th emphasizes the particular importance of the upcoming presidential election this November 2. A thought to those in Germany, and also to those elsewhere wherever Americans maybe overseas: Americans away from home can vote with Absentee ballots. Let those Americans overseas know your feelings about current world affairs, and ask them to vote absentee. Many American military are stationed throughout Germany; in Kaiserslauten, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Garmish-Paterkirchen, and elsewhere. It may be well to rally, polite and peacefull of course, in front of those base gates. Ask Americans there to vote for Kerry Absentee; in hopes for Peace and Justice throughout the world. Respectfully, Robert Shule, U.S. Citizen.
ISRAEL APARTHEID WALL Editor For long epoch, injustice prevailed but never maintained at all angles and parameters. Consequently, justice should reign sooner or later and the weak in the face of the world and international community should puissance in strength. Light must inevitably overcome darkness. Uri Avnery's article, "Thank you, Dubby," (Al-Jazeerah, October 17, 2004) The little "BIG" statement in Uri Avnery's story today really caught my attention. It was such as simple yet profound statement of truth....... "The human craving for freedom is invincible, and so is the struggle of oppressed nations for liberation. To ignore this is not realism, it is blindness." King Soloman wrote; "there is nothing new under the sun". Struggle for freedom to live, marry, raise a family, make a living, and express one's self, is nearly as old as the human race. All peoples and all nations have struggled with and for this. As a mother and Grandmother I am saddened by the deaths of innocent children on all sides of every conflict. No one is right or wrong when a child dies.....we are all poorer. A potential peacemaker or noble winning scientist may have just been eliminated from the human race. When a student can't return to the college or University and continue their education or a patient can't travel to obtain needed treatment the world is robbed of its goodness and joy. When a family can't gather it's harvest and provide for its self, the world is poorer......we are all poorer. When people are mocked, beaten, imprisoned, held without trial, impoverished, and their little is destroyed.......we are all poorer. It is not always who is right or who is wrong but who has the courage to change and begin to make a difference that will enrich the world. I watched as the nonviolence tactics changed the way things were in America for one group of oppressed people. I read our history.....we call it the American Revolution...England calls it "The Rebellion". It all depends on which side of the conflict you are living on, how you perceive it. I pray for peace...an equitable peace for all. Do I believe I will see it.......a good question and I guess I probably don't completely but even if it comes in in bits and pieces for a few years at a time it will be better than what is in place now. If Egypt can help negotiate peace then so be it...but let someone step forward and do it. I applaud any efforts in that direction. I am a Christian, American Jew..... engaged to a Palestinian, Arab. If we can set aside our differences to one day have a home together, I'm sure others can work on tolerance and find a way to work side by side in this life. For me love is greater than hatred, and Peace is better than fear. I fear to even put my name to this....not for me.... but for trouble it could bring to him in Palestine. It is a sad day when you can't acknowledge your loved ones for fear of reprisals against them. I pray for a different world.... a different standard.... when love would rule and hatred would fall by the wayside. Dr. M.ary............
