Famous Quotes about War&Peace

"A standing army is a standing menace to liberty."

Voltairine de Clayre

Charles A Beers

The angel of death listens to prayer

By Jean Jones

The angel of death listens to prayer

The angel of death sits at the foot of the President’s

Desk and listens to him make plans for war with his

Advisors. She sits underneath the Arab woman at

Her window as she screams for the blood of her

Husband’s murderers. She is present at every

Torture in South America as the victim starts

To gurgle blood. When the priest speaks, she

Listens. When the dying gasp out their last

Breath, she hears. Even in American college

Campuses, as students argue about soldiers

Overseas she is present. And she votes to

Send the soldiers overseas every time.

A Child Dies, he is the Father of History

Jocelyn Braddell

here a white cloth swaying
a heavy cloth stretched over a shadow
a corpse held up by the press of people
here it is hot
here you feel it on the sole of the foot
here the palms of your hands sweat
there is a riot of voices
streaming through the merciless light
crying out

we remember a strong light
coiled in muscle
a man carried in to our mother
this light defining our grasp
the toil of the earth
the fruit of the water
the olives in the sheet
we gathered olives in this sheet

now here we show the mirrors of this world
where the shots came from...
among our bodies it passed to rest in his...
and does grief rise as smoke?
in this territory that history snared
our trees are thrown over and burnt...

our water drips from the fractured tank
our blood from this wound...
our light is spilt in the vessel of a child
the roots of our feelings
tremble in the ground
for they will never die
nor will the wind
nor will our enemy forget the dust....

RAID ON CHALABI IS A BOGUS ATTEMPT TO PROP UP CPA'S LEGITIMACY

The raid on the Pentagon’s own favourite to head the new US-appointed ruling group, should not be a surprise. It is all a ploy to gift some credibility to Chalabi. By targeting him through a contrived raid, US authorities are trying to hoodwink the people of Iraq and rest of the Arab and Muslim world, that Chalabi is no longer US stooge.

The change in policy was dutifully laid out by Newsweek editor Fareed Zakaria, in his latest article, where he exhorted: “an interim government ……will need not just power but legitimacy. And legitimacy can come only if it shows Iraqis that it can stand up to the occupying power. Washington should understand and even assist in this dynamic. At least in appearances, we have to lose for Iraqis to win.”

Observers note Fareed Zakaria has always been used by US administration to promote new strategies and get the public debates rolling. His work on a different twist to 'the new shades of democracy' reflected the new ideas in Bush administration to suit their forays in democratising of the Arab and Muslim world.

So the raid on Chalabi is all part of a contrived effort to build up public image of the CPA as an independent and nationalist authority; though the reins of power will always remain with the US colonists.
