Member of Agnon family ashamed to be Israeli Tamar Agnon, grand-daughter of Shmuel Yosef Agnon, Nobel Prize winner, took British citizenship 18 months ago and is telling everybody in London that it is not a good time to be Israeli. If a member of the Agnon family, a pillar of Israeli society, can't leave with the fact that they are Israeli .. what's next??? Tamar Agnon did take British citizenship and is still ashamed to be Israeli. She certainly is not the only one. David Leesberg
:Let the Tide bring the refugees to Safety Dear Editor, Today is International Woman's Day and in Australia we celebrate how far we as women have come in our country. And yet we incarcerate women and children in detention centres, both within Australia and outside our borders as part of the "Pacific Solution". I am ashamed to admit to being Australian! Amanda Vanstone and Australia's Government policy of excising islands from Australia has not deterred people from seeking asylum on our shores as mentioned in your article "Pacific Solution" Helps Turn the Refugee Tide dated 6th March 2004. I say give them all a "fair go" for did not we white people all arrive here on boats! Julie Stevens, Brisbane, Australia
I'm a Dreamer By Neda Khalil March 9, 2004
I’m a dreamer, Thinking helplessly. I envision a life in the home of my great grandfather Ali. I see my children playing along in the streets and having no fears.
I’m a dreamer, Feeling security, I envision a life of joy and glee. I see everyone living in happiness and security.
I’m a dreamer…willing to risk it all. To take the step that was needed for all. To give hopes and calm the fears. Wait!
This is not a dream. Or is it? I am…
But not for long…I know our hopes will come soon… Palestine will blossom. The Zionist regime, Sharon, and Bush… They will bear witness to our state…
I’m a dreamer…but not for long… I am the hope that lives for Palestine… I am the tear that falls for Palestine… I am the voice that recites for Palestine
I am the dreamer…with my words and actions With our commitment… Palestine shall be returned into the arms of the dreamer… A dreamer that that always dreamt… A dreamer that never gave up…
I am the dreamer… For Palestine I am… I am the dreamer… For Palestine I always will…!

Dear Editor: I congratulate Mike Whitney on his very good article on UN bringing to heel the US school yard bully. I have for a long time that the US in its present set-up, with its aggressive Foreign Policy, as the single most threat world peace, and is about to invade space with nuclear weapons. The US has just engineered a coup in Haiti. And now Venezuela is the target. And getting the US out of the governance of the UN would certainly be a good start. Jack Lakavich Kelowna, BC Canada
Dear Editor: I would like some clarifications from Mike Whitney regarding his March 8 editorial in your online edition of Al-Jazeerah "The UN has to assume the role of adult...". Mr. Whitney calls for Aristide to be immediately restored to power in Haiti, and that his 92% popular vote election must be honored. I suppose it is possible that Mr. Whitney has missed the fact that if the United States had not taken Aristide from Haiti, he would almost certainly have been killed in a coup. And that the looting citizens of Haiti are calling for Aristide's return to Haiti - so that they can put him on trial immediately for the murders of his opponents in his landslide election. Would Mr. Whitney like the United Nations to somehow ensure that Mr. Aristide can avoid all of the trouble of a trial and execution and get right back to the work of successfully running Haiti? I wonder if Mr. Aristide would still get a 92% vote in Haiti. What do you think Mr. Whitney - assuming he did not assassinate his opponents this time? I would also like some clarification on the idea that the United States should be ousted from the United Nations. He says in his editorial that President Bush described the UN as "irrelevant". That is not entirely true, of course. President Bush stated that the UN risked becoming irrelevant by not enforcing their sanctions on Iraq. The UN never did enforce their sanctions, and is an irrelevant body. If the United States were not part of the UN, the entire world would understand exactly how irrelevant the UN is, and how completely helpless the UN would be without the military support and credibility provided by the United States. Thank you, Michael Finch, USA
