It is true the American media is often times a malicious propaganda machine for the American hawkish right wing. Most of us who lived through the 60's could hardly forget what and how they ganged up on president Ngo Dinh Diem and his ruling family members of the First Republic of South Vietnam, demonizing him and his regime of being, in their language, self serving, brutal and oppressive, thus paving way and shoring up justifications for the subsequent bloody CIA orchestrated coup d'etat of Diem's regime.

The real reason for the regime change was simply because Diem and his ruling family members wanted a South Vietnam more independent of American military involvement So the American hawks of the time replaced him with yes-sir-no-sir Nguyen Van Thieu. The American media's MO hasn't changed and will never change: to be government's propaganda machine, not the free voices of people, because the whole system is largely owned and controlled by the hawkish right wing. However, as the old saying goes, people can only be fooled some of the time, but not all.

First Anniversary of the Killing of Rachel Corrie

March 16, 2004 will mark the one-year anniversary of the killing of International Solidarity Movement (ISM) peace activist Rachel Corrie, a 23 year-old American student from Olympia, Wash. Rachel was crushed to death by an American-made Israeli bulldozer as she tried to prevent the Israeli Army from demolishing the home of a Palestinian family in the Rafah refugee camp in Gaza, Palestine.

The Israeli Army consistently bulldozes Palestinian homes, particularly in Rafah, where over 200 homes have been demolished in the last two years, leaving thousands homeless and destitute.

As of yet, the US government has yet to conduct a thorough, independent investigation into the murder of Rachel, generally a routine procedure when a US citizen is killed. But in this case, Rachel had the misfortune of being killed by an agent of an ally, Israel.

As the one year anniversary of Rachel's murder approaches, let all peace-loving people, as a way to pay real tribute to this courageous and exemplary human being, give life to the unflinching spirit that animated her struggle against injustice and brutality wherever it exists. And we can do this by contacting our congressional legislators and demand an investigation into the circumstances of this horrendous incident and hold those responsible accountable.

A memorable service will be held on the courthouse square, Prescott, Az, on Wednesday, March 16th from 4 to 7pm. The public is invited to bring a flower, candle or card as a way to honor the memory of Rachel and the hundreds of innocent people she died trying to speak out for and defend.
