Whitney,
Rationalizing Aggression. I wish that our papers were as thorough as yours. I have arrived at many of the same conclusions that were in your column. Our newspapers and broadcast media seem intent on hiding what is so obvious to me and to your paper. Bush is only following orders, he is a puppet who does as he is told and he obviously knew that attacks were coming and made no effort to stop them. In his book, Ron Suskind, wrote that according to what he learned from Paul O'Neill, Bush had decided to ignore the problems between Israelis and Palestinians. That was apparent to me and to the press well before 9/11, even though it was not his spoken policy, it was obvious that he was ignoring that dangerous situation. I am deeply concerned that I have to read the truth in Aljazeerah rather than in the American press here at home. The news media, watchdogs of our freedoms, are asleep on the job. They seem to ignore the truth and do not bother to seek it. Gene D. Editor: Al-Jazeerah is a US publication. Together, we're creating new and truthful journalism.
Cartoon Reproduction Dear al Jazeerah, I am a 20 year old student from Ontario, Canada and am wondering if I would be able to reproduce a couple of your cartoons for a free magazine that a large group of friends and I are starting. Marc Bourgon, Canada Editor: You're welcome but keep the names of the artists, the original publications, dates, and of course Al-Jazeerah. Good Luck with the magazine.
code and the six questions about Islam, Moslems and Jews Its an understatment to mention that all religious beliefs have been used and abused in words actions and deeds. As some one who has visited several countries in the Middle East I am often asked questions about the people, their morals and beliefs. While I do answer to the best of my knowledge I am puzzled by the fact that no one seems to ask questions such as; How is Jesus treated in the Hebrew religious texts? As an example is he considered as the Christians consider Him to be the Son of God? How would students who happen to be of the Jewish faith and their families react if they were told [in the USA] that they should not wear their hair and or head dress in the fashion that they do in order to attend public schools? Why is it that the Islamic community not question and/or ask questions as to how the non-Moslems view them and their religious beliefs? Should not people of good faith demand that the UN needs to as, a minimum world entity, call on ALL religious scholars, intellectuals and others to a conference of human understanding of each other? Maybe instead of awaiting on the UN, Aljazeerah could initiate such an endeavour. The world surely needs such a discourse. Regards, Armand DeLaurell Editor: I agree wholeheartedly about your suggestion of more understanding. Actually, there has been a conference in Abu Dhabi, Doha, and shortly in Kuala Lumpur that aim at increasing understanding. But we need more, particularly inside Christian countries, in North America and Europe. I'm open to suggestions from anyone concerned about how we can proceed.
BBC's and anti-Muslim World bias At Work Economic Forum, BBC’s NIK Govin, most audaciously and arrogantly took up the task of legitimizing US President Bush’s decision to invade Iraq, by battering the Iran’s foreign minister Kharaji to admit publicly that Iran signed a protocol with El Baradey who was sitting in the next chair on the stage, only after receiving an open or veiled threat from the US that Iran will be attacked if it did not dismantle all its programme on nuclear armament. This is typical of the West, when interacting with the East, that they had to rub them in the wrong place in most undiplomatic way so that there is every reason for the rest of the population to react with sympathizing with the so-called ‘terrorists’. If according to West, the East will not cooperate with them, without they using force, how can the people of the East be persuaded that West will cooperate with them, without their using the same brute force in some form or other. The language used by Nik Govin, was the most characteristic of the power drunk US/UK and could only designed possibly to provoke and find excuses to indulge further war-mongering opportunities to enslave the rest of the world.
