A two-state solution

Dear Dr. El-Najjar,

Thank you for your nice note ---- I only have time for a brief thought right now but will write you more fully later. Yes, one state would be beautiful but I'm afraid that in this juncture in history it is impossible. A two-state solution is, and I have many creative ideas as to how it could be worked out. I love the Palestinian people, as I do my own people, and I pray they will achieve not just their independence but the dignity and the happiness they deserve. I believe that after the bad blood is reconciled, the Palestinian People and the Israeli People, living in their respective states and working together, can become a tremendous force for good in the region. It troubles me that the intransigent elements on both sides cannot see this. My people have always been stubborn and your people have always been angry ----- maybe we can help them find a way out.

I would like to help a poor Palestinian family ---- please let me know how I can do so without going through any official organizations and without any political implications ----- just a goodwill, people-to-people thing. I'm not a person of means but I am sure I can help a little.

Editor: The Bush administration has closed many Palestinian and Islamic charities that used to provide Palestinians with assistance. You may contact CAIR or the Palestinian Authority Office in Washington DC, and I'm sure they would provide you with names of such organizations. The Palestinian people are in dire need of any assistance after three years of war, closure, and unemployment.
