Might may not be right

To Mohamed Khodr (Western Responses to Mahatir's statement about World Jewish Power, Oct 13, 2003):

Since Zionist Jews are so powerful maybe you should convert!

Herb Glatter

Chicago, Il, USA

Editor: The Nazis and the Fascists were powerful, too. All oppressors were powerful. People did not convert to oppression, they stood up against it.

Dear Editor,

In reply to the Hilmi Salem's letter that mentioned that Dr. Mahathir's should refer to Zionist instead of Jews, isn't this something familiar that we have heard regarding the Muslims?

Whenever we hear of extremist Muslims who carry out terrorist acts, aren't all the Muslims around the world treated as terrorists too. It took the Muslim world very hard to dispel such notion, but the media in the West and US are still referring to all Muslims as extremists and linking them to terrorists, even though majority of the Muslims condemn the terrorist acts carried out by the few.

The Zionists are extremist Jews and if the non-Zionist Jews are not happy with the reference of Jews in Dr. Mahathir's speech, then consider the non-extremist Muslims' feelings who are not terrorists but constantly referred to as one by the media. We should request that US and western media be specific when they refer to terrorists. They should refer to specific groups, organisations, etc other than continuously linking it to Islam, and thus the whole Muslim community. Not all Muslims are terrorists and terrorist can be non-Muslims too.

Fauzi Shahab, Malaysia

Editor: We all should be specific in reference to any act or a group.

Your article: Mahathir insists on that Jews Control the World Tue October 21, 2003

Very correct ! Even Uri Avnery - Jewish Author and Peace Activist said this and is worried about the power of the Jewish media and politics worldwide !! (see their power in US politics !!) (see Uri Avnery´s website !) I never realised, the Aboriginees in Australia were treated so kindly and with such human compassion .... This is new to me. I had thought it was a Holocaust against them as well - as it was against the American Indians . But one-sided views have always shown a distorted picture of the facts and will do so - even worse in the future with the Media power in Jewish hands. Who can deny that ???

A Jewish Millionar just bought several TV stations in Germany as well !

Mahathir, Bush, and Micronesia and the Marshall Islands

I was outraged that once again the US voted against a UN resolution ordering the halt and reversal of the Israeli wall.  Of course Israel voted against it also, but what is laughable and a joke, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands also voted against the resolution being totally subservient to their Master US.  This provides some comic relief!

I am not surprised at the comments of Prime Minister Mahathir about Israel, and I am glad he is not backing down.  He is now being villified and demonized as anti-Semitic, anti-Jewish, blah blah.  And nothing could be further from the truth.  It is not surprising that he got a standing ovation at the Islamic gathering in Putrajaya.  This latest US and Israeli action in the UN is just another excellent example of why there is so much anger out there, and why so many resonate with the remarks about the present Israeli government.  There is a lot of anger all over the world about the impunity of Israel against the Palestinians with the full support of the US, which also acts with impunity against the world.

What right has President George W. Bush have to berate Mahathir in Bangkok for his remarks?  And now Bush will lecture Indonesians in that insulting three hour stopover in Bali.  But it's good news that Indonesians will stand up to Bush and tell him what they think, but they will be to polite to tell him where to go!  More countries need to do that.

What I find very telling is that the US media hardly mentions any of the anti-US protests while Bush is running scared in Asia.  The protests in the Philippines, for any who bothered to monitor them, were incredible in scope happening all over the country.  Air Force One on landing was greeted with the burning of US flags, and in fact the US party was held up for an hour because of security concerns, even with the thousands of military and police deployed!  Thailand had many anti Bush anti US protests, Indonesia also had protest actions, and Australia had more.  But the Bushies just do not get it.  In Iraq the security situation becomes worse each day, but the Bushies say things are improving!  So it is no any wonder that the US keeps voting against UN resolutions.

'Voter suppression: 'It can't happen to me'' (excerpt) ...

It's not so much an "It can't happen here," mindset as "It can't happen to me." For the past two decades, the Republican Party has engaged in the systematic and deliberate suppression of the minority vote. Republicans have clucked their tongues and shaken their heads and then thought about other things, secure in the illusion that because the most blatant examples involved nonwhites, it posed no real danger to the Democratic process as a whole.

And now that illusion may lead us to accept an electronic system of casting and counting votes that would render the kind of "nightmare" Dionne invoked obsolete, not because it would eliminate voter suppression, but because it would make voter suppression practically undetectable. No muss, no fuss, no hanging chads or butterfly ballots and no independent verification, just utter reliance on the competence and good will of the private companies that manufacture voting machines...

Stop George Bush Petition

To: Tony Blair, Prime Minister of Britain

The British government has invited George W Bush to Britain on an official state visit from 19-21 November. To those of us who opposed the senseless waste of human life entailed in the attack on Iraq, this invitation is unacceptable.

The US administration is heading the illegal occupation of Iraq, and is threatening action against Iran, Syria and North Korea. The state visit will be seen as an endorsement by the people of this country of this policy.

We demand that the government retract this invitation

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
