Dear Editor,

I am often struck by the United States' condemnation of other peoples' violence.

Is it not hypocritical for the United States to call upon other

governments and individuals to disavow resort to violence when America has

been the most frequently and deadly perpetrator of violence in the world

during the last half century? Think about it, if I had a gun and I was

shooting at you, but all the while shouting at you to throw down your

weapons and come out with your hands up, would you do so if all that stood

between your life and me was your ability to defend your life? I don't think

so, and if you did you would probably be made a martyr if I disrespected the

law prohibiting murder to the same degree that the United States has shown

contempt for international law. Granted, if you could trust in the law,

perhaps you would come out with your hands up, knowing that you would get a

fair trial. However, this incentive has been shown such contempt by America

that most reasonable observers no longer consider it a viable option for

other governments or individuals. The point is this: If America wants the

rest of the world to live peacefully--to give up its nuclear weapons and not

to threaten each other, and America, with the use of force--it must lead by

example. To kill the women and children and the brave soldiers of

Afghanistan and Iraq in violation of the most basic principles of

international law is not a good example. For America to tell the

Palestinians, and even the Israeli's to lay down their weapons and live in

peace is not credible, unless America can do the same. To tell North Korea,

Belarus, and Iran not to possess nuclear weapons is not credible unless

America gives up its nuclear weapons. It is America that is the problem, not

the rest of the world. The sooner this is recognized the greater will be the

chance of peaceful coexistence among all countries.

You have to be pretty belligerent to upset the Vatican, which usually refrains from politics and concerns itself more with religious issues; but Bush did exactly that through his pre-emptive war. Thanks Bush: The entire free world hates America because of you and your Zionist cohorts! See La Civilta Cattolica:

Dear all,

Ayaz and Tahseen have been released from detention in Jordan.

They are currently with the British consulate and will be flying

home today (Wednesday). They have now made contact with their

families.

The pair were kept in separate detention cells in israel and interrogated

continuously. It is not yet clear how or why they were re-arrested when

they were sent back to Jordan.

The families would like to thank everyone for their efforts in getting them

released.

All for now, I will post updates on my Palestine website when more

information becomes available:

CIA aware of dubious war motive
    The Age [Australia]

The debunking of the Bush Administration's prewar certainties on Iraq
gathered pace yesterday when it emerged that the CIA knew for months
that a connection between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda was highly
unlikely. As President George Bush was forced for the second time in
days to defend the decision to go to war, a new set of leaks from CIA
officials suggested a tendency in the White House to suppress or
ignore intelligence findings that did not shore up the case for war."

WILL ANY AMERICAN, ANY HUMAN, OUR PRESIDENT, OUR CONGRESS EXPRESS "CONCERN"

ON DEMOLISHING A HOME OF A HANDICAPPED YOUNG MAN FOR MAKING HIS HOME

MR. SULZBURGER, MR. GRAHAM, MR. LEVIN, MR. SUMNER, MR. EISNER: IS THAT PART

Legacy of a Nonviolent Political Leader. Governor Gulliermo Gaviria of Colombia

The killing of Antioquia state Governor Guillermo Gaviria Correa on

May 5, 2003, among ten hostages massacred by FARC guerrillas in

reaction to a military rescue attempt, deprived Colombia and the

world of a nonviolent political leader whose legacy is no less

significant than those of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Britain once again has sabotaged Europe
