An Attempt To Understand Surrendering To Allah, Almighty God

By Ali Al-Hail

Al-Jazeerah,  June, 2007

To a human being, to believe in that Allah (Almighty God) who solely gives and takes away; provides her\him with a peace of mind. Especially, in these days whereas different and varieties of pressures besiege human beings, such a faith is crucially, essential to a human life, any human life, and to her\his way of living.

For; it functions as a deterring weapon against these pressures which generate, amongst other effects stress, and strain on all levels of human life individually, as well as collectively. Certainly, Allah (Almighty God) grants a creature, any creature, including a human being, any human being the moment of birth, and that of death.

Thus, whatever happens to a human being between those two moments, it does happen actually, with Allah's authority, and consent. Because a creature, including a human being, any human being comes into this life with a decree from Allah, and when he\she passes away she\he does so with a decree from Allah too. Consequently, a human being shouldn't rely on means i.e., people, governments, materials, money but, to rely on Allah. As the former is temporary, doesn't matter how long they do last according to Allah's decision while, Allah is not. He is immortal, and everlasting.

Having said that, a human being is however, demanded by Allah to exhaust every single available means she\he has got within their capacity to make good things come about to them, and to avoid bad things. This action of taking up the means is vitally, persistent in Allah's teaching, as it is a warship in, and by itself.

It's widely, observed that, happiness on this earth, is so much contingent upon a contentment of this nature, and an absence or else, a lack of it is bound to cause misery. In view of that, if a human being chose not to take up the necessary means to get what she\he wanted, based upon a bad faith that, since Allah gives and takes away, why should she\he bothers, she\he had then awfully, violated Allah's law.

Though, Allah is the God and Creator of means, He can (as He is capable of absolutely, everything) give creatures without them making any efforts, still He urges creatures to step up. In Allah's teaching, taking up means is the original source of His blessings.

Hence, even if a human being obtains an appropriate means in her\ his judgment, in order to reach her\his objectives, and she\he got what they wanted. This means that Allah (Almighty God) wanted what they desired to occur to them. By the same token, if after taking up the means, nothing had occurred to them, this means Allah didn't decide what they had desired to occur to them.

Naturally, Allah knows better than the creatures what good is for them, and what isn't. Perhaps, what they sought after, wouldn't be in their interest at present. It could well be good for them at a different time in the future.

Obviously, Allah is the One who created them, and everything else on this earth, and beyond. Since Abraham, the father of all Allah's prophets Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH), up to Moses (PBUH), Jesus (PBUH), and Mohammed (PBUH), who was dispatched by Allah to complete what all his predecessors started as Allah's last messenger to humanity, this surrender to Allah Almighty God is profoundly, important for humanity on this earth. Therefore a MUSLIM surrenders to Allah (Almighty God) when things become against her\him, despite whatever means she\he took up.
